An article written by Dr Mahmoud Jaraba addresses the practice of khulʿ, a specific procedure, in which women can give a divorce by returning the dower (mahr) or anything else that she received.

After three successful years, "Islamberatung in Bayern" (Islamic Affairs Consultancy) has been extended until 2024. The project of the Eugen Biser Foundation in cooperation with the Robert Bosch Foundation and the Erlangen Centre for Islam and Law in Europe (EZIRE) has been acting as an advice centre for municipal actors since 2019 and provides professional as well as practical assistance on Islam-related topics.

An interview with Hatem Elliesie by Deutsche Welle is the source for an article on Islamic law in sub-Saharan Africa. Following the cooperation conference of EZIRE with the African Law Association, which took place in Erlangen in November 2021, the topic was taken up and processed as relevant.

The Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BAdW) honours EZIRE Deputy Managing Director Dr Stephanie Müssig with the 2021 Peregrinus Foundation Award "for her significant research contribution to the empirically grounded understanding of Muslim beliefs and practices in Germany."
