Last Saturday (19.10.2019) the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften (Long Night of the Sciences) took place in Erlangen, Nuremberg and Fürth – the staff of the Erlangen Centre for Islam and Law in Europe (EZIRE) also took part with their own stand.

The EZIRE conducts research and teaching on Islam and Muslim life in Europe from a multidisciplinary perspective and, in addition to research and teaching, also offers services such as advanced training as well as advice, expertise and expert opinions.

During the Long Night of the Sciences, visitors were given an insight into the research and answers to their questions. In addition, there were many opportunities to get to know Islam better: on a prayer rug, for example, interested persons were able to take up a prayer posture or learn ritual washing step by step. In addition, by trying on burka, abaya or nikab as well as by tasting dates, spices and tea from the samovar, and by listening to traditional music, one could experience the culture and religion of Muslim everyday life for oneself.
