Mag. Dr. Yunus Valerian Hentschel, BA
Yunus Valerian Hentschel studied Arabic and Islamic Studies as well as Political Science at the University of Vienna from 2007 to 2013, combined with studies abroad in Cairo und Damascus. In January 2021, he concluded his Ph.D. in Islamic Studies on Present Sufi Approaches to the Qur’ān at the Department of Near Eastern Studies in Vienna.
Yunus has been working as a lecturer at the department since 2015. He was Junior Fellow at the International Research Centre for Cultural Studies in Vienna (IFK) between 2018 and 2019. The following year, he was Visiting Assistant in Research at Yale University and Guest Researcher at Utrecht University. Yunus currently works at the Erlangen Centre for Islam & Law in Europe (Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nurnberg), co-leading a project on Muslim perceptions of systematic discrimination in Germany.
